then he turned a huge part of that fortune into political and social influence. he has given more than $32 billion to the open society foundations, funding everything from education and independent civil society to human rights and justice causes around the world.
he has also spent heavily on progressive politics in the u.s. open records show contributions of $125 million and $50 million to democracy pac ii in 2021 and 2022 alone.
so yes, soros genuinely has had unusual financial, philanthropic, and political influence. but that real influence also gets mixed with conspiracy theories blaming him for protests, political events, or secret control of governments without evidence. image
