threads (social network)
threads is what happened when people wanted twitter without twitter.
meta launched it in 2023 as a text based social network connected to instagram, and it exploded almost immediately because millions of instagram users could join without starting from zero.
the interesting part is that threads wasn’t really inventing a new behavior. it was competing for an existing one: people wanting somewhere to post opinions, jokes, news, arguments, and random thoughts in public.
social networks rarely win just because the product is better. sometimes they win because they already have the people. -

stendhal syndrome
stendhal syndrome is basically when art hits a little too hard.
the name comes from the writer stendhal, who described feeling overwhelmed, dizzy and physically affected by the art and beauty of florence in 1817.
more than a century later, a psychiatrist in florence noticed similar reactions in tourists visiting museums and started calling it stendhal syndrome.
it’s not an officially recognized psychiatric diagnosis, but the idea is fascinating: sometimes beauty can apparently overwhelm us enough that the body reacts too. -
art
what makes something good art has changed throughout history.
sometimes it was technical mastery and beauty. sometimes originality. sometimes emotional power, symbolism, or the ability to challenge the way people see the world.
good art does not necessarily have to be beautiful or even pleasant. it usually gives you a reason to keep looking, thinking, feeling, or arguing about it after you have seen it.
